Company History

How it started

Our company was established more than 120 years ago and our fourth generation is currently turning pegs. In 1884 our founder, Franz Lorenz (1859-1944), started turning pegs with very simple tools in Ursprung, Czechoslovakia. His son, Josef Lorenz (1885-1975), later took over the workshop and continued quite successfully until the expulsion of his family from what was then referred to as the Sudetenland at the end of World War II. Josef Lorenz's family, including his two sons, Emil and Alfred found their way to Bubenreuth in southern Germany as did many others that had been forced from their homes. Here they continued turning pegs in small workshops.

The fourth generation - Harald Lorenz.

The current owner is Harald Lorenz. Starting in 1985 I worked with my father, Emil Lorenz, as his apprentice. Having grown up in the family home he often watched his father at work from a very early age. After many years of apprenticeship and common work the workshop was extended in 1999. In 2000 Emil Lorenz retired and the workshop was transferred, in its entirety to his son Harald. Starting in 2002 Harald Lorenz began the production of tailpieces and one year later of chinrests.

The company philosophy

Our products are made for professional musician.
Today our policy is the same as it had been since 1884; i.e. to use traditional methods of woodworking to produce the finest quality possible. Elegant classical forms, graceful workmanship and traditional workmanship continue to be our goals. As always, we use only the finest materials available.
